Federation Forest State Park

Lush old growth forests surrounds visitors to this 600+ acre park located just outside the community of Greenwater on State Route 410. Among its many attributes is its close proximity to the highway, yet once you have arrived at the park, you will feel miles away.

A dense stand of Douglas Fir trees dominate the forestland, but in between find mature Western Hemlock, Red Cedar, Sitka Spruce, Vine Maple and oh, so much more. Over a mile of self-guided nature trails wind through the forest where name tags help visitors identify the plant life.

Meander among old growth forests

From the park, 17 miles of trail cross five distinct ecosystems and follow the White River banks where birds and small mammals find their homes. An amphitheater and several campfire pits make this the perfect spot for large family gatherings and reunions, as well as youth groups. As a note of special interest, part of the Naches Trail and evidence of pioneers still exist in the park.

Within the park there are two picnic shelters without electricity and five sheltered picnic tables. The upper picnic area has drinking fountains, a covered shelter, braziers and restrooms with running water. Both are first come, first served.

This day use park is open April through October (8am – dusk). Because of the lower elevation, (1700 ft.) snow is normally not a factor during the park’s open season. Shade seems to be the drawing card during warm summer afternoons. An escape to Federation Forest is perfect for kids, seniors and the whole family.
